Our ancestors have developed various manipulations, inventions and forms of expression, from body language to word and letter, to communicate with others.
The invention of letterpress printing in the 15th century made it possible for information to be disseminated more quickly and broadly. Thus now, since the birth of telecommunication technology such as telephone and television, we receive vast amounts of information in its real time. These days, it is possible on an individual level to record, edit and transmit information by using video/audio devices, computers, the Internet and so forth.
However, the one-way transmission controlled by the media for the sake of market expansion is what we are predominantly surrounded by in our modern lives. Is this kind of so-called mass media trend narrowing the function of the “media”, which is the primal communication tool of humans? In the relationship between the individual and media, one can see the diverse and flexible states that are not bound by purpose. Within these states, there may be information with an artistry or universalism that remains eternal.
Our organization pays great heed to “the representation addressed by the individual”, a technique which utilizes video or sound and which has shown a dramatic development in recent years. Since these representations do not convey tangible messages or stories, they are often not accepted by already existing media such as T.V., movie, theatre and so on. Consequently, there are in a difficult situation to succeed in business. Yet, this should not mean there is no value for “the representation addressed by the individual”.
We consider whether these representations will attain social value and whether individuals will rediscover their ability to freely communicate. Thus, our organization provides activities that act as a conduit for the organic flow of research, experiment, development and practice by exploring and reviewing issues presented via media.

Phill NIBLOCK http://www.phillniblock.com
Phill Niblock is a New York-based minimalist composer and multi-media musician and director of Experimental Intermedia, a foundation born in the flames of 1968's barricade-hopping. He has been a maverick presence on the fringes of the avant garde ever since. In the history books Niblock is the forgotten Minimalist. That's as maybe: no one ever said the history books were infallible anyway. Since 1968 Phill has also put on over 1000 concerts in his loft space, including Ryoji Ikeda, Zbigniew Karkowski, Jim O'Rourke.

Is this kind of so-called mass media trend narrowing the function of the "media", which is the primal communication tool of humans? In the relationship between the individual and media, one can see the diverse and flexible states that are not bound by purpose. Within these states, there may be information with an artistry or universalism that remains eternal.
Our organization pays great heed to "the representation addressed by the individual", a technique which utilizes video or sound and which has shown a dramatic development in recent years. Since these representations do not convey tangible messages or stories, they are often not accepted by already existing media such as T.V., movie, theatre and so on. Consequently, there are in a difficult situation to succeed in business. Yet, this should not mean there is no value for "the representation addressed by the individual".
We consider whether these representations will attain social value and whether individuals will rediscover their ability to freely communicate. Thus, our organization provides activities that act as a conduit for the organic flow of research, experiment, development and practice by exploring and reviewing issues presented via media.

      AHA! [Archives for Human Activities]
AHA! aims to build a digital film archive system by collecting and preserving moving image artifacts. By doing this AHA aims to create a comprehensive resource for people interested in the history of the moving image. The project provides 8mm film screenings, home screenings, and provides a service to convert 8mm film to DVD to enable older films to be added to the archive.

Alternative Media Gathering
Alternative Media Gathering is a workshop that studies the approaches of alternative media , as well as new learning methods and different ways of using the various forms of media.

artist pick up
artist pick up focuses on video works in the contemporary art field and introduces local and international artists who push creative boundaries and go beyond what is considered conventional. The project explores video works using conventional screening methods as well as works displayed creatively in a given space.

remoscope
remoscope is a collection of video works made in accordance with the Lumiere Rule which consists of six conditions ( Maximum 1 min. / Fixed Camera/ No sound/ No Zoom/ No editing/ No effects). The Lumiere Rule was created by remo from the six possible techniques in 1895 when the Lumiere brothers invented the cinematograph . We provide workshops giving the opportunities to create, present, and talk about the works to a wide-range of people from beginners and professionals of video-shooting.

The Installation of old film and sound related to family of the artist, Hiroshi Miyamoto.

<From the artist statement>
I create "a warehouse of memories" recorded in various media using 10 video projectors, FM radio waves and daily objects. Visitors can take a part of memories
to home. Please bring a portable FM radio you have (if you have).

- Old photographs sometimes impress us when seeing them
- It could do because you find the common thing with those photographs.

This project is composed of installation works about The Miyamoto Family and their stories.
I interweave my film, photographs and sound are interwoven with the home movies and the family albums recorded by my late grandfather Toshikazu into a work of art. In those records, both of us capture the people close to ourselves and landscapes around our house. That is to say, the memories of the family are recorded.

_ For instance, face. voice, and body of the self, lifestyle, memories in childhood. expectation to the future
_ you might realize something taken for granted, but something important through our work.

Dates: Friday, 6th to Saturday 14th July 2007 15:00-21:00
